In view that trafficking victims are usually vulnerable to exploitation and blackmailing in the destination country, the Plan includes procedures for providing assistance to these victims. Such procedures help in identifying the culprits and bringing them to justice. The Plan focuses on developing mechanisms of cooperation between the authorities concerned in the public sector and private sector, organize the provision of services to victims and inform the latter how to get them. Royal Oman Police, the Public Prosecution, Ministry of Labour Forces and other authorities concerned will provide information, advice and support through hot telephone lines to help victims. Assistance to victims include the following:
- Legal Assistance .
- Medical Assistance.
- Help to get Accommodation.
These assistances will provided by the following authorities:
- Public Prosecution: legal assistance including the appointment of a lawyer for the victims, advice on legal matters and on laws enacted in the Sultanate.
- Rroyal Oman Police: accommodation, food and protection for victims and witnesses.
- Ministry of Social Development: social welfare, rehabilitation, integration into society and child care. Integration is meant to improve the victims ability to determine their own affairs, help them acquire knowledge and skills, to adapt rapidly and get suitable employment.
- Ministry of Health: medical and psychological care according to the individual needs of victims. Such assistance will be provided once the victim is recognized, found or reached regardless of their legal situation during the provision of assistance. Special attention will be given to the mental ability of the victim. The Ministry will submit to the competent court suitable medical reports on the victims.
The Ministry of Health assistance will include in particular the following in emergencies:
- Ensure the victim is physically intact, provide free treatment, bed where necessary, food and medicines.
- The Ministry will assess the physical health and provide necessary care directly in the following case:
- Injuries resulting from violence or physical attack.
- Malnutrition
- Infections
- Mouth and teeth injuries
- Gynaecological checkups.
- Pregnancy
- Mental assessment and provision of necessary care in case of mental injuries resulting from physical, sexual or mental violence.
